Recruiters at Major, Lindsey & Africa will conduct themselves in accordance with high standards of quality, ethics, and good business practice in order to earn the trust of employers and candidates and maintain our reputation as the most respected legal search firm in the world. Observing such high standards is an important foundation of the MLA culture.  We work to the benefit of both employers and candidates in making placements, and must assure that both parties experience and perceive honorable and professional service. We do not work to the advantage of one party over the other. The following principles are part of our commitment to be forthcoming, as transparent as possible, and to work in the best interest of both candidate and clients.

Values—the primary values that govern our interactions with clients, candidates, and each other are Integrity, Quality, Respect, Diversity, and Collaboration and Teamwork as defined on our website.

Employerswe will be honest and diligent in providing information to employers. We will provide employers with any and all information we have that an employer would reasonably need to make a good hiring decision.

Candidateswe will always obtain candidates’ permission before submitting them to employers; and inform candidates of the results of submissions in a timely manner.

Submissionswe will respect clients’ time and resources. We will refer candidates who are appropriate to clients’ needs. We will refer candidates to clients only when we have reason to believe that the client would desire the submission, based on the best available information.

Disclosurewe will inform candidates of any and all information about the prospective job and employer that we are aware of that would be important for the candidate to make an informed decision.

Confidential Information—we will treat confidential information from clients and candidates as such. We will not redistribute confidential information outside of MLA without the consent of the client or candidate who gave it to us.

Termsall fee agreements, refund conditions, and hands-off provisions will be made explicit to clients prior to candidate submission, either by a signed fee agreement or submission of our standard terms and conditions.

Hands offfor the six months following the start date of a candidate placed by MLA, no MLA recruiter will solicit attorneys in the same employer office holding the same role (e.g., an associate) as the candidate.

Candidates placed by MLAwe will not solicit candidacy from individuals placed by MLA as long as they remain with the same employer at which we placed them.

Non-discriminationno MLA employee shall discriminate against any candidate or fellow employee based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or disability. When employers appear to have hiring processes that actively or implicitly discriminate, we will help them see the value of removing barriers to diversity.
